Planning your Pentwater Trip

Hey everyone! This snowy weather is making me daydream about warm weather and summer fun on Lake Michigan. I thought I would share some of my favorite places in and near Pentwater. If you are coming to the wedding, these are places you should be sure to check out:

Old Baldy
No, I don't mean Jeremy! ha ha! Old Baldy is a giant sand dune in Charles Mears State Park. I don't think a summer has gone by since I was old enough to walk that I haven't climbed ALL the way up to the top of Old Baldy and then run all the way down it at top speed at least once. When I was little, there was a primitive foot trail up to the top, now there are wooden stairs and an overlook. It is worth all the huffing and puffing for that amazing view of Lake Michigan. Be sure to take off your shoes at the top of the dune before you go barreling down-- and watch out for sticks!

Bortell's Fisheries
Jeremy loves the fresh seafood and I love the history and notalgia of Bortell's. This is a great place to get smelt, perch, and whitefish- all caught in Lake Michigan to go (fresh or smoked), or fried on site and and enjoyed at a picnic table in front. Bortell's is an old-fashioned road side fish stand. The Bortell family has been in the business for over 100 years, moving only once and only as far as across the street! The place looks like it is frozen in time and there are great old photos on the wall documenting the family's history in the fish biz. Bortell's is only open Memorial Day to Labor Day, so if you have a chance, be sure to check it out: 5528 South Lakeshore Drive Ludington, MI 49431. PH: 231-843-3337

Summit Township Park
The state park beach does not allow dogs but Summit Park Beach between Pentwater and Ludington does! Enzo loves jumping in the waves and fetching sticks here. Since it is off the beaten path, it is also less crowded in the middle of summer than the state park. http://www.getoffthecouch.info/mason/summit.htm
Have a great weekend everyone!
xo,
Holly

  1. If you like Summit Park visit our website! www.friendsofsummitpark.com. The township is looking to build on the green space and destroy this beautiful place!

The website with Petition will be up on June 1st!
